Out of the Depths, Psalm 130

"Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord," is a heart-felt plea of a child of God in troubled times.   You, too, can sing the psalmist's cry, with guitar and piano settings.

The fear of the Lord

In Proverbs 1:7 we are told that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."   And here in Psalm 130:4, the psalmist says, "But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared."

Honored? Revered?  Dreaded?  The word "fear" can have many shades of meaning.

But it is plain in this Bible passage that the psalmist is expecting mercy, though he is fully aware of his own sinfulness.  He is expecting God to be forgiving, and in His word he hopes, waiting and watching.

Psalm 130

Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.

Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Out of the Depths

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.

O Lord, hear my voice.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.

O Lord, hear my voice.

Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
