How to NOT sin? John the Apostle instructs the early church how to avoid sinning. But what if they DO sin?
God's answer is explained in this song, which you may download for
"My little children, these things I write unto you that you may not sin."
What things is John writing to his audience?
"Abide in Him." "Walk in the light." "...whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected."
"If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar!"
The writers of New Testament scripture set forth that we believers are in stages of becoming more like Jesus - we have embarked on a JOURNEY.
But unlike Jesus, the God-Man, along the way we will stumble, and sin.

Our remedy is to recognize we have sinned, confess it to the Lord, and MOVE ON. We are not benefited by immersing ourselves in endless guilt.
If we can remedy a situation where we sinned against someone - such as restoring stolen property - that is appropriate! Apologies are appropriate. But not to move on is to deny that Jesus Christ was able to pay for all our sins on the Cross: past, present, and future.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Does the Bible - the revelation of God - ever say that a human, while still on earth, can reach a state or stage of growth where sinning will never happen? NO.
Even the apostle Paul conceded that God had allowed his "thorn in the flesh" - for which he pleaded three times for it to be removed - to keep him from exalting himself.
So, having been "washed" by salvation - ONE TIME - we are to continue the "cleansing of hands, or feet," so to speak.
8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.”
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
The "bath" is one-time salvation - but since we don't proceed straight to heaven, we must "walk" day by day until God does take us home to heaven. In this walk, we will struggle with our own tendencies to unrighteousness. All these are sin, though they may seem little or big to us.
One day all these tendencies will be removed permanently, when we are in the presence of the Lord after death.
But for now, we need to wash ourselves - and each other, when appropriate - with the "water of the Word" - God's way of cleansing us, and readjusting our attitudes and longings.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Become more like Christ, "conformed to His image," thinking "the mind of Christ." The mind of Christ is the Word of God. If we read and read and study the Word (the Bible), then we will gradually become more like Him.
But prayer for God's leading and guidance is necessary! There are so many teachers and interpreters of the Bible, and so much disagreement.
Yes, pray... God will honor the honest longing of your heart.

Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
I also happen to love the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Christian worldview that portrays The Great War in the heavens, in which we here on earth are destined to be a part.
