The "Kinsman Redeemer" is a term from the Old Testament which describes the Messiah.
He came to earth not just as the Son of God, but as man, our "kinsman," like Boaz in the story of Ruth.

This arrangement is in the key of C and uses just the C, F, G, and Am chords. The melody is easy to sing, however, it descends down to G below Middle C - too low for some folks to sing comfortably - so I'll be making versions available in the keys of D and Eb as well.

Here is an easier arrangement for piano. It is just broken chords, with a few inversions:

Why does the music say, "Like a Lamb.." in verse two? Not because Jesus was meek and mild! But because He was the sacrifice for the sins of humanity, anticipated by the Passover Lamb.
In the book of Job, chapter 9 verses 32 and 33 , Job laments that there is no "daysman" between himself and God, someone who could lay his hand upon both and reconcile them. That is the term used in the King James Version.
The NIV says "someone to mediate between us..." and the ESV translates the word "arbiter."
"For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together. There is no arbiter between us, who might lay his hand on us both."
Isaiah 53 says in verses 11 and 12, "He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied... and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."
Once a race was cast from Paradise into a realm of bondage
When they chose to trust a lie, and say, "I will be like the Most High!"
All became enemies, lost with the Evil One.
Now beneath the shadow of death they dwelt.
Then the Lord spoke of a coming Redeemer, saving the ones who trust Him.
I have heard of how a Kinsman was sent to redeem the helpless;
Truly God, yet truly man - in our likeness Messiah came.
Though He was God's own Son, destined to reign as King,
Like a Lamb, He poured out His soul to death.
Giving Himself as a ransom for all, so we could have peace with God.
Like a flint, His face was set to Jerusalem for the hour.
There, such pain and so much need, to His Father He prayed with tears:
"If it be possible, let this cup pass from Me;
Yet, I come, O Father, to do Thy will..."
Then He was made to be sin for us, and the Father was satisfied.
Though the copyright date on this music is 2019, I actually wrote this song many years ago. It was sung from time to time in the congregation which my family was a part of then.
In spite of that, "The Kinsman Redeemer" never felt quite finished to me, except for the third verse, which I have not changed at all - that verse is mostly scripture.
Now I think the song is ready.

Hi, I'm Dana! (Say that like "Anna".) I'm the owner of Music-for-Music-Teachers.com, and this newer site, SingTheBibleStory.com.
Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
I also happen to love the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Christian worldview that portrays The Great War in the heavens, in which we here on earth are destined to be a part.
